This week, it\'s been brought up that -- according to an insider -- Susan Boyle\'s famous audition on Britain\'s Got Talent was Auto-Tuned for pitch perfection in the broadcast mix. What do you think? Check it out on YouTube; I\'d love to hear your opinion.

Mid-Side Recording: Your thoughts?'); document.write('
Have you used mid-side recording successfully? Tonight, I was mixing a recording I did of the band Old Crow Medicine Show a few years ago, and I ran the soundboard mix into the \"mid\" channel and used a Neumann KM100 figure 8 capsule for the side.

I mixed this in Logic Studio, and it sounded unbelievably good. While this is an unconventional use of mid-side, it worked great.

Have you recorded anything cool using the mid-side technique?

Can outboard be replicated?'); document.write('
This weekend, I was talking with a software engineer who works for a major company reverse-engineering and digitizing the algorithims of old microphone preamps in order to replicate them. The idea is, they\'ll be able to replicate the acoustic properties -- namely the coloration the preamps provide -- and allow a user to make their microphones sound as if they\'re going through many different preamps.

So, for you analog guys: do you think software will be able to accurately reproduce beloved outboard equipment? What\'s the hardest thing to replicate in the world of plug-ins?

Of course, plug-ins are a great way for home studios to use expensive-sounding dynamics or effects without paying the full price for high-quality analog gear, but how close does it get?
